I guess my generation just followed the crowd to work every day. Mom and Dad did not tell us what the right etiquette was when it came to getting up and going to the daily job. You just observed or listened to what your folks did on the way to work and you did the same thing with some variations. If Dad was a hardcore blue collar worker he had showered the night before and left the house with a thermos with a green metal lunch box. My dad was a brown bagger and headed to the local candy store for the newspaper, a pack of cigarettes, and a coffee. If he could not stop there was always the coffee truck that had all of the above plus hot food. If your dad worked in a big company, he could get all that at work and then sit at his desk or workbench. Mom was more motivated to get to work with fewer stops in the morning. She may have stopped for coffee at the local Deli or a thermos was good enough to get to work. Most companies wanted, let me rephrase that, demanded you were at work and at your desk or station by eight o’clock or there would be hell to pay. So you basically followed in your parents’ footsteps in your routine before getting to work. I do an equipment check before I leave in the morning.

The discovery of Bokar beans five years ago gave me great joy. Dark roasted coffee beans ground right before brewing made the perfect coffee. I was thrilled to be able to order it on Amazon’s Subscribe and Save program. This last shipment contained dried light colored beans with no sheen and no aroma and when brewed had a flavor of vanilla detected by both me and my husband. It was AWFUL. We both drink our coffee black so nothing else hampered the taste. We threw out the remaining beans and have returned to an alternative of Berkeley & Jensen Costa Rican beans not as good as the original Bokar beans but better than our last batch. I’m not taking any more chances with my morning cup of coffee.

I love the Eight O’ Clock Bokar Blend coffee, it is a rich, flavorful, robust, “wake you right up” blend that is different from any other I have tasted. I can only find it at a few grocery stores, so I keep trying other coffees, but I always come back to the Bokar. Buying it through Amazon “subscribe & save” is wonderful – no more extra grocery trips to stores just because they are the only ones that carry it, plus it is actually cheaper through Amazon than it is in my local store!
